Abstract
Simple bone cyst with pathologic fracture was usually treated by plaster immobilization to stabilize the fracture site and thereafer local steroid injection and/or bone graft in remaining cyst. Pathologic fractures in a weight-bearing bone,
particularly
the proximal femur, require immediate definite treatment. If these fractures are treated conservatively, mamy complications such as coxa vara, avascular necrosis of femur head, osteochondritis dissecans may be resulted. Additionally long bed rest
should
be necessary.
Authors treated two pathologic fractures of proximal femur(one neck and trocha-nteric, the other subtrochanteric area) by primary curettage and autogenous bone, pyrost graft with intramedullary nailing and obtained good results.
In children obtaining a large volume of autogenous graft bone is usually impossible, thus pyrost was used. Pyrost is an almost purely deproteinized cancellous bone, processed mainly from calves, and hydroxyapatite constitutes more than 90%.
